Kauai – day 1

Kauai – What an amazing place.

Had Jeff meet us at the airport – where we received a proper greeting and received our lei’s.
Got in to our rental house last night around 10:00 pm – and I was up and out paddling by 7:00 am.
A quick 7 km paddle up the river and back was an awesome way to shake off the minus 20 weather from back home.
Then is was to the beach with the family.
I headed out to the reef and managed to get a few good rides in before the crowds came.
After some time at the reef I headed in to hang with the family and play in the shore break.
It was a super fun day of small surf and had a great time spotting waves for Trey and meeting new people.
Tovi paddled by and we got talking – he was on a brand new Starboard Hero – in Silver AST – and was having fun.

The new Starboard Widepoint is amazing.
It seems much faster than my Whopper – and is just as stable – even though it is 2 inches narrower.
The really nailed the volume placement on this board.
I guess it makes sense that it works on these waves – since this is where we all tried out the prototype last year.

BBQ’d some Mahi-Mahi for dinner and now it’s time for some sleep!

My "quiver" over here seems to be growing (2 more boards not in the shot)
