Tavarua 2012

At the beginning of April (just after our 25th Annual Snowboard Cup) I was again fortunate enough to be invited to go to Tavarua, Fiji.

Right before we were to leave the area was hit with torrential rains, and it was not until about 30 hours before our scheduled departure that we were told that the trip was still on.  Once arrived in Nadi, on the island of Viti Levu, Fiji – it was evident the damaged the rains had done.
Roads were washed out, bridges gone, and flood damage everywhere.

The Fijian people are remarkable and were hard at work cleaning up and getting on with life.

The 45 minute bus ride out of town to the pick up point for the boats could have been filmed for an episode of Deadliest Roads.

Once on the island we were again in our own paradise.

I’ll let the photos do the talking from here, only to add if you ever get a chance to go to Fiji, or more specifically, Tavarua – you must go.

My Starboard 9'5" Widepoint waiting in the Edmonton airport. For some reason it wouldn't fit on the luggage belt.
Although the water had gone down - there was still lots of damage on Viti Levu

Angela and I would paddle a couple laps around the island every morning.

Fishing is pretty good too! Tom and I with a couple Yellow Fin Tuna (which are made into Sashimi for dinner the next night).
The food is all time. This is only lunch one day.
